We are a martial arts uniform and apparel company. Initially, our focus on solely on Brazilian Jiu Jitsu products, but we eventually branched out into other various martial arts forms to expand the business.
A Letter From the Chief Executive Officer:
In 2014, I was stationed in Okinawa, Japan as a government contractor. Being a Marine Veteran myself, working for the Marine Corps was a dream come true. I started Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) under a Robson Moura affiliate, Sparks Martial Arts, which was located near my hometown of Monroe, North Carolina. It was only a couple of months after I started there that I received word about a position in Okinawa, Japan. I accepted the position without hesitation.
During my Marine Corps enlistment, I was stationed in Okinawa, where I met my wife. Deciding to go back to Okinawa was an easy decision for my family. I joined the BJJ school on base, which is where I met Professor Ivan Sakamoto, a relative of former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) cage fighter and BJJ black belt Fredson Paixao. By late 2013, I had already come to terms with the fact that my position of employment wouldn’t last much longer. I decided to design and purchase a BJJ gi for my professor. The copious amount of legwork that went into presenting one gi to my professor single-handedly launched this company.
After returning back to the United States, my paychecks where significantly reduced by 75%. Needless to say, I was using my G.I. Bill to make ends meet, as well as, working a full-time job with two part-time jobs. With little time on my hands, I also didn’t have time or money to train. I eventually decided to close up shop in hopes that I could make ends meet on all other fronts.
By March 2017, I had reached all that I could take with other companies mimicking several product designs that I’d previously created. This propelled me into sling shooting the business back into action. Suddenly, once I made the official decision to reopen the company, I was flooded with product and marketing ideas. Ideas that have propelled this company to it’s current success. To all those who have dreams, my advice is “Keep the faith. Stay the course.”
